How is hubcap size determined?
The shop lists the outer diameter of the cap, measured rim to rim with a caliper. If the old cap is missing, measure the centre bore and send the figure with a photograph. The car model is only a hint. Aftermarket wheels often differ from the set that left the dealer.
Which BMW hubcap diameters are most common?
There is no single BMW size. On factory wheels 56 mm and 68 mm show up a lot, but it depends on the generation, the wheel pack and whether someone fitted aftermarket rims. A 56 mm cap will not seat in a 68 mm bore. Badge colour is a separate choice, not a size. The reliable method is to measure the old cap or the hole.
What is the difference between a hubcap, a sticker and a body emblem?
A hubcap is the plastic plug in the wheel centre. A sticker is only the badge glued onto that plug. A body emblem goes on the bonnet, boot, grille, wing or interior trim.
How many pieces are in a listing?
Hubcaps, cap stickers and valve caps are usually sold as four pieces. Emblems and accessories follow the count in the title, often one or two pieces.
How should a sticker or emblem be fitted?
Wash and degrease the surface. Fit at room temperature and press from the centre outwards. Skip a wax wash for 24 hours. Dried factory adhesive has to come off first, otherwise the badge lifts.
What is the difference between a hubcap and a full wheel cover?
A hubcap (dekielek) closes only the centre bore. A full wheel cover (kołpak) hides most of the rim face, usually on a steel wheel. They are not interchangeable. Measuring a cover as if it were a centre cap gives a useless number.
Is it legal to drive without centre caps?
Usually yes, if the wheel is mounted correctly and nothing is missing from the hub. The open bore collects brake dust and water. One missing cap on an otherwise complete set looks unfinished. Replace it when the size is known, not after a winter of dirt in the hub.
How do you remove a hubcap without breaking it?
Plastic prying tool or a wrapped flat screwdriver under the rim of the cap, then even pressure around the circle. A hammer on the face cracks the badge. If the cap is already brittle, buy the replacement first. After removal, check that the retaining lugs are intact before refitting.
Will shop hubcaps fit aftermarket wheels?
Only if the outer diameter and the bore match. Borbet, OZ, Alutec and similar rims rarely copy the dealer hole. The car model does not decide this. Measure the old cap or the bore and send a photo if the number is unclear.
Does an automatic car wash rip off hubcaps and emblems?
It can. Soft cloth and high-pressure tunnels grab loose caps and peeling badges. A cap that already rattles should come off before the wash. Freshly glued emblems need a day before any wash, especially a wax programme. A longer note is in the blog articles on washing a car and choosing a wash type.
Should a car be dried with a towel after washing?
Yes, if water spots on dark paint matter. Tap water leaves minerals. A clean microfibre towel or a blower is safer than an old bath towel, which scratches. Do not rub dust into dry paint. The full sequence is in the blog article on washing a car.
Manual wash or automatic tunnel?
A careful hand wash is gentler on paint, emblems and hubcaps. A tunnel is faster and cheaper per visit, and harder on loose badges. Touchless wash sits in the middle: less scratching, more chemistry. Details are in the separate blog article.
When should summer tyres come off for winter ones?
Polish law does not force a winter set. The useful trigger is a daily temperature around 7°C plus a forecast of frost or snow. Waiting for the first white morning means a queue at the tyre shop. More context is in the blog.
Where is the correct tyre pressure?
On the sticker in the driver door, the fuel flap or the handbook. The number on the tyre sidewall is the maximum, not the working pressure. Measure cold, before a long drive. After a frosty night the reading drops and TPMS may light up without a puncture.
